The Skyraider (I believe that's what it was called) was used for close ground support because of it's "TIMEX" ability.  You know "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking".  I guess these airplanes could take an unbelievable amount of abuse from ground fire.  Not only that but it was a platform for a lot of ordinance.   We were transporting it from NSC Oakland or NAS Alameda to Yokosuka, Japan for eventual use in Vietnam.
