GOD'S NATURE & PERSONALITY

God: the Creator of all that is, is Sovereign.  He wants us to increase in the knowledge of Him; to know Him, and He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him.  We are predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son who is the express image of God.

God is a spirit and normally can not be seen with the natural eye but He is revealed to us in Scripture.  Although Scripture was written by holy men of God, they recorded, without error, God's Word to man as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Perhaps the most notable characteristic of God's nature is that He does not change.  This is our guarantee that what has been revealed to previous generations about Him and His will is still applicable to us today and always will be.

An equally notable characteristic of God's nature is that He can not lie.  This assures us that His Word is Truth.  From this we know that discrepancies, confusions , contradictions , variations, etc., are not of God.

God is holy.  He is spiritually perfect and pure.  We are commanded to be holy because He is holy.  He is merciful and His mercy endures forever because it is renewed day by day.  God delights in loving kindness, judgement and righteousness.

Probably the most spoken about characteristic of God is that He is Love.  This Love is a giving Love completely free of selfishness.  It embodies mercy, forgiveness, divine providence and in fact, every characteristic of God stems from the fact that He is Love.  This is not to imply that we are free to break His commandments as we please without penalty.  His Love does not negate His Justice.  Nor should we mistake His patience for tolerance.  His judgement must begin at His house, whose house are we. . .

Have you not known?  Have you not heard?  That the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, faints not, neither is weary?  There is no searching of His understanding., i.e., it is beyond measure.

It is impossible to please Him without faith.  This faith that He requires comes by hearing the Word that He has freely given us.  When you set your heart to follow His ways through knowledge of His Word it becomes impossible not to please Him!
